Make Money Online Without Selling Anything

By MD On December 15, 2009 1 Comment

I’ve had this idea for a long time actually for creating websites and blogs aimed at people who don’t or can’t make purchases online. You probably know who I’m talking about, the very conservative who still don’t trust putting their credit card number into any computer, the seniors who think there’s no use for the internet (let alone make a purchase online) and of course you can’t forget about the kids. Now what kind of site or blog am I talking about?

ABA Bank - Credit Card

I am talking about sites or blogs specifically made for making money online from CPA – click per acquisition or action, CPC – cost per click, CPM – click per Mille, or 1,000 impressions and you make money by amount of impressions. They won’t have to make any purchases and it’s a great demographic for making money online just from clicks and impressions.

I know this isn’t a new concept or anything, but the whole reason I started thinking of creating sites for this was because I have a ton of family members/friends and I spend a lot of time with kids. I have a daughter, a ton of neices, nephews…..so I’ve seen there uses and skills on the computer, they blow me away sometimes.

In fact, some of them are constantly on their little netbooks and clicking on adds all day and night. One night I was thinking to myself, wow the sites aimed at youngsters make a killing from ads getting clicked on because a lot of it has to do with there age and knowledge. Older and more computer savvy adults click adds a lot less than a youngster who sees, let’s say Google Adsense adds all over.

Now we have the groups of seniors who still think the internet is useless to them or “evil”, but their age group is immensely growing every year for being online and the adults who still don’t trust purchasing anything online. Now these type of sites mentioned above work well for them as well for making money on the internet because they don’t mind clicking on helpful adds. Here was a interesting read about seniors online habits I read on Mashable.

Here are the three types of ad networks that work well for sites made for making some extra money from these demographics I’ve been talking about in this post.

CPA – click per acquisition or action, usually you need to just give the company a lead and they handle the rest and you make money.

CPC – cost per click, Here’s some of the popular one’s you might want to checkout to make money from clicks.

CPM – cost per milli or 1000 impressions, make money from impressions.

A training program that you may be interested in that I am going to be joining very soon just so I can use the tools they provide is Blog Success. I was reading a section in their program the other day that actually taught you how to make blogs similar to this just spending minutes a day aimed at these type of demographics using some of their exclusive tools such as Utility Poster.

My suggestions for making a site or blog aimed at these demographics: children, seniors and adults who don’t make purchases online is to think like them, ask them what kind of sites they like and look at examples online for these kind of sites. For instance for kids, think games, cartoons etc….  Also think of things they look up online whether for information or entertainment. Always remember to blend your adds and experiment. UGRKV75VJWG4

Are Blog Carnivals Dead?

By MD On December 11, 2009 No Comments

One of the first things new bloggers look for are traffic and backlinks for their new blogs.  That’s if you want anyone else but You and your Grandma to read your posts. Blog carnivals – (a type of blog event which is similar to a magazine. It is dedicated to one topic such as “Make Money Online” and published on a regular schedule, like per week or mth. Every new edition will be in the form of a blog post with short descriptions and permalinks or anchor text to the original entire article posts.)

It’s one of the methods many new bloggers including myself use to gain more exposure, meet other like minded people and backlinks since so many Big Blogs use to recommend them. But now many people think they are dead or not even worth your time.  Here’s an Example of a Blog Carnival for Work at Home topic.

Here’s my take on them since I’ve been using them.

Navy Pier Panorama - Mark your seat on the ferris wheel with a note!

The main reason I wanted to give “Blog Carnivals” a try was because obviously I wanted more traffic and links, but if you’ve ever read any old posts from any of the top internet marketing and blogging blogs from a few years ago they all talk about how great “BC’s” work for traffic, one way links and that it’s a good place to meet like minded people. Now keep in mind this also was a few years back and the internet world can change overnight.

This is the best Blog Carnival Site you will need to use.  You will be able to find just about any BC for almost any niche/topic and it’s FREE to join.  You can also even add your own blog carnival for others to find as well. I’ll talk about that later. This was the only site I used to find relevant blog carnival’s and added some of my better posts to as many relevant blogs to see what happens.

Here are my results after a few mths. I didn’t really get any PR juice since most of  the pages I added permalinks or anchor text to weren’t and still aren’t even indexed by Google and I get maybe about 40 unique visitors per mth from the blog carnivals I added my links to.

I didn’t really lose anything but time, since it was it was FREE, but I didn’t really gain much either.

What I’ve learned: The topic or niche I was trying to promote was “Internet Marketing” and “Make Money Online at Home” and those were the type of Blog Carnivals I was looking for.

There aren’t very many good Blog Carnivals out there that are on that specific topic, but if you have sites or blogs on other topics and niches such as dating, animals, current events, photography and so on then you can find a lot of good Blog Carnivals out there for them. They also will be really active, high trafficked and you’ll probably get some great backlinks as well. Just not for the “Make money niches.”

You can create and host your own “Blog Carnival” easily and this will bring fresh new content and articles to your blog. You’ll connect with like minded bloggers and if you do it right then you could have a high trafficked and successful blog. You can submit your own “Blog Carnival” <—here at the same site where you can find “BC” to join as well.

I don’t waste my time anymore with “blog Carnivals” for any of my Make Money Online niche blogs but I will use them for my other blogs that are in different niches.

This is just my take on them, have any of you had good or bad experiences with them or do you know of any other good sites to find good blog carnivals?

10 Proven Ways to Make Money Online – Beginner to Advanced

By MD On October 3, 2009 4 Comments

Happy-Couple-MoneyThe 21st Century has opened the Doors Wide Open for entrepreneurs and marketers alike to make nice incomes from the comfort of their homes, online.  But what about for the rest of the world who aren’t computer savvy?

With the widespread of internet users growing each year there never has been a better time to Earn Money Online and make money on the internet even without any Prior Training or Experience.

There are so many reasons why Making Money Online is becoming so ever popular from all walks of life.  But mostly, it gives just about anyone a shot at becoming their own boss, making a nice side income, becoming a public figure, more free time, financial freedom or practically whatever you want to achieve from it.

If you have a little ambition, work ethic and imagination then you just may soon join the millions who already make money at home online.

I listed ten ways to make money on the computer by skill level 1 being the easiest and 10 the hardest

1. Online Surveys and Data Entry – This is probably one of the easiest and fastest ways to make some extra side income on the computer.  Pretty much you’ll take surveys for companies, preview and try new products, shop, give opinions in focus groups and do data entry.  Some people are making good money doing this but most just supplement their incomes with this method. CashCrate is (100% FREE to join) and quite easy to make money from, and here are two other similar places you may want to checkout as well Global Data Entry and Survey Scout, which charge a small amount for membership.  All three companies provide you training, and all the resources you need to get started.

2. Writer – One thing all internet companies and marketers need is content.  With the internet booming, makes it easy for writers (beginner – expert) to make easy money on the internet.  Almost everyone with a established blog or website hires someone to help or write all their content.

Including;  writing articles, press releases, content for their sites and etc….  You can also earn money online by writing for hubpages , eHow and squidoo.  It’s really Simple, FREE, and Fun to do.  All you do is write articles and get paid a small percentage from ads they put on them.  If you were interested in freelance writing checkout these places Freelancewriting, digitalpoint and put up a ad or reply to one.

3. Google Adsense – Have you ever wondered what all those ads on some websites are or come from?  You’ll usually see a “ads by Google” near them.  You make money by placing these ads on your site or blog and when people click on them you will make a small amount for every click.  All they need to do is click on them.  NEVER click your own ads, you will be banned for life from Google.  It’s really easy to start up.

If you are new to this then go here to pick a place to make a  FREE website or blog and then join here Google Adsense, FREE to join as well, then just start writing about things you are interested in and correctly place the ads on your site.  They should automatically match relevant ads to your content.

4. Social Media – This has grown immensely,  just like the internet has in the past few years.  It pretty much involves networking, helping/sharing info with others who are interested in the same thing.  I will tell you right now, this method for making extra money at home will be more successful and more productive with experience, But there are many newbies in “social media marketing” SMM that are earning money daily.

If you don’t have experience then you should start off with Twitter.  I believe it’s the easiest Social media platform to earn money online from.  Getting twitter software like  Tweet adder will greatly help you make money faster and grow an army of followers.  Go here if you want to learn more Twitter Tips and Tools.

5. Affiliate Marketer – Market other people’s/companies products or services and make money for your successful efforts.  This is one of my favorite ways to earn money online.  I also do everything else on this list or have done in the past as well.  All you need to do is signup and join a program.  You will be given a unique url which will track all visitors and sales that come from your special link/url.  Why is affiliate marketing so popular?

You don’t have to worry about anything except making sales thru your unique affiliate link.  That’s about it.  Everything else will be handled through the owner or a third party for transactions.  Beware of joining some programs that don’t pay you after you make sales.  It’s happened to me before and I was “steamed” but here’s a few of my favorite programs that are reliable, trustworthy and have a ton of products More Niche, Clickbank affiliate program, Paydotcom and CJ.

6. Selling your Services and Freelancing – Do you have any skills or knowledge you could share and make money on the internet from?  This could include but not limited to SEO services, coaching, writing, selling/making websites or just about anything people need help with.  Easy way to startup a little independent business on the side or Full Time Income.  This is pretty easy to start.  All you really need to do is checkout some freelance sites and reply or post your service.  You could use sites like craigslist, sitepoint, elance or “digital point” like mentioned in #2.

7. Blogging – According to the Wall Street Journal 1.7 Million “Americans make money blogging” and more are added to that number daily.  This isn’t just a Hobby anymore and the cool thing about it, especially for newbies, there’s many good programs that help you earn money blogging.  This isn’t as easy as it looks.  Trust me, but with proper knowledge, experience and diligence you’ll be able to become successful.  Here are two legit fast track programs FREE Blog Profits Blueprint and Make Money Blogging that will guide you along the right path.

8. Ebay – I think just about everyone has bought or sold something with Ebay.  This was one of the first ways for me to make some extra money online.  It takes some experimenting and research but pretty much self explanatory for getting started but making good profit will take some effort and having Good Products to sell.  You can sell just about anything on ebay.  My two tips would be, use good keywords for your ad, especially in the title and find good wholesale companies to find popular products.  Here’s my favorite site to Find Hot Ebay Wholesale Products to make more money with Ebay.

9. Start your own Business/E-commerce site – since the boom of the internet, starting your own business online or having your own E-commerce site has given many people an opportunity to live the dream.  You can pretty much have any kind of online business or E-commerce website.  Many people start their own Ebook, SEO, graphic design businesses all the way to stay at home moms who own their online stores that sell t-shirts and crafts.  With little overhead, a virtual store open 24/7 and entire world as your store front this is a great way to make money online.  Here’s a great  program SiteSell to help you create a successful internet business, all in one.

10. Internet Marketer – Pretty much combines all or any of the ways of marketing and making money on the internet. This field is highly competitive, always changing environment and very challenging. But not impossible, I know of Kids who Make More Money than their own parents ever dreamed of making and Grandparents who Make Money on auto-pilot Comfortably in their Homes. The risks can be great but the rewards may be far greater.

They now have actual college degrees you can get for internet marketing and there’s online programs that train and coach you but come with hefty price tags.  You could also do what millions have done before and that is learn on their own from trial and error but most will give up within a few months from frustration or run out of money just from experimenting.

You could find an inexpensive fast track program that guarantee you results but most are full of  B.S. and really don’t teach you much but here’s one of the few Internet Marketing Fast Track Programs that works and may just be right for you.

I hope you got some new ideas and insight about the ways you could earn money online.  Just make sure you don’t try to take on to much at one time or it’s very easy to get overwhelmed.  If you have the will and determination and know that this is what you want to do, then you should find success.  The skills and knowledge will come later along your journey.  I’m living proof of that.  Do you have any other suggestions or ideas to Make money on the internet?

3 Crucial Tips for Effective Article Writing

By MD On September 17, 2009 2 Comments

If you have been on the internet for a while doing any business of any kind, you would have noticed that content is king. Since content is king, it is essential that you learn how to become a better writer –if you are not one yet- and learn how to write effective articles targeted at keeping the audience glued to your website.

effective-article-writing-tips

Unfortunately, not many people can churn out the required quality that will keep their audience interested and enamoured with their website. if you are reading this article, then it is likely that you fall in this category of people. To become a better writer and be able to write effective articles, here are some tips to guide you in that direction.

Make Your Headlines Attractive

Like it or not, copywriting or persuasive copy is a necessary ingredient here. If your headline sucks, trust me, no one is likely to take a look at your website. Think about it like this: Which headlines are you attracted to more often? You will observe that attractive headlines are probably the reason you buy newspapers. That’s how powerful this is. To learn how to write powerful, attention-grabbing headlines, your first step would be to take a look at most articles online. Which ones grab your attention?  Write them down and try to craft your own headlines in that format.

And . . . Here we Go

If the headline is great and the intro part is whacked, you should know that’s as far as it gets for you. Your writing should build up gradually and the ultimate end should be a reader’s satisfaction. Make your introductory part something that piques the reader curiosity. Draw him in with that introduction and compel him to read on. A good way of doing this is by:

- Asking questions that the reader is likely to have in his mind so he gets the feeling that you relate to him.
- Telling stories. We all love good stories. Don’t we?
- Making outrightly brash statements. This works like a charm. You will have the reader thinking “what the hell does he mean by that statement?”.

Offer Qualitative Information

When people see that you have got a great headline and an even better introduction, they WILL read your article. All you gotta do is keep them interested. Use anecdotes if you can. But in the event that you can’t look for what you think will keep them interested. The theme of your article is also important. Informational articles should contain tips, tricks, techniques and strategies to overcoming a certain problem or solving a particular problem.

Reporting articles should include quotes, statements made by relevant people and other relevant details. This will ensure that your articles do not sound long and boring.

Quality Articles are a fun way to get people to your website and to keep them interested. If you have to pay to learn how to become a better writer and write effective articles, then do so. It will be an investment well worth it.

What to do Right Now

There are lots of awesome courses, free reports and membership sites available for you to choose from if you want to improve on your writing. Go get one now and start practicing. You will be amazed at how good you would be in a few weeks.

Here’s an important question to ask yourself about affiliate marketing and article writing.  Are you a shotgun marketer or a marketing sniper?

A shotgun marketer writes a ton of articles and gets as many out as possible, hopefully a few will get traffic and make a few sales. The longevity and effectiveness of these articles usually only last a short period and then fade deep into the internet.

A marketing sniper relies more on tactic, skill and efficiency.  They write a few very well written, informational, effective and well planned articles aimed at a certain demographic.  Once written and submitted they then go back and work on getting backlinks, seo and improving the articles serps.  A sniper marketer finds out which kind of article writing format and content work well and then implements that same article style.

I probably fall under both of these categories above.  I will admit, I have done both article marketing methods.  Maybe a mixture of both is best, I don’t know.   I guess you’ll have to experiment.

With these “Tips on Writing an Article” you should be able to make more money on the internet with your websites and blogs.  Effective article writing is a skill that you will learn thru experience and observing but a must to create an authoritive presence online.

Top 9 Ways of Getting Powerful Backlinks

By MD On July 31, 2009 13 Comments

I have made a list of 9 Ways to get the Most Powerful Backlinks or one way links to your site or blog.  One of the most important parts of SEO is getting backlinks to your site, that’s if you want to be on the front page of the search engine results pages (serps) and get higher PR.  The trick is gaining one way links to your site that look natural (meaning don’t go get 1,000 backlinks in one day) for seo purposes, especially for Google.

You should try to get high quality links from trusted sites that are relevant to your site, and use the correct anchor text (keywords you want to improve search rankings for). You need to make sure that you are placing links on DoFollow sites – search engine spiders will follow and give link juice back to your site. Nofollow links tell the search spiders not to follow them and they don’t pass on any link juice.

I’ve added some great references below every dofollow backlink method that contain Incredible lists of great places for you to use.

1. Do Follow Forums – This is one of the easiest ways of getting FREE Backlinks.  There are 1000′s of forums on the net and more popping up daily.  Most good forums are do follow and allow you to leave a link to your site in your signature at the bottom of each post you make.  Just make sure you find relevant forums to your site and it is a do follow forum.  This is also an easy way to get many links back to your site because the more posts made by you the more one way links.  Even if you add a new site to your signature and you have 1000 posts then you automatically just added a 1000 links to that url.

Here are some great sites that have listed DoFollow forums with their PR as well.

2. Blog Commenting – Leaving a comment on Do Follow blogs is a very easy and FREE method people have been using for years.  Just make sure you are commenting on relevant blogs and don’t spam.  Add value with your comments and add your opinion to the subject.  Don’t forget about using trackbacks!

Here’s a few great sites with a huge list of Dofollow blogs and their PR.

3. Directories – Use them correctly and you will be on the front page of the Serps in no time.  Directories are great because you get to leave a small description of your site then it’s placed in a relevant category which gives you a very authoritive link back.  Some are FREE and many cost money for a dofollow link but usually worth it.  I’ve also noticed many of them are now doing the whole reciprocal link exchange as well if you don’t want to pay.

Here’s a few sites with dofollow directories.

4. Social Bookmarking sites – Okay, I’m sure you’ve heard social bookmarking is a way to get TONS of  free traffic, exposure and authority but it’s another great way to get one way links.  You get to add a description of the site or post and a link to it.

Now there is always a argument over which bookmarking sites are dofollow but I’ve found some good sites below that pretty much got it right and even if you don’t get any linkjuice then you’ll still get plenty of traffic from them if bookmarked correctly and with valuable content like from Digg, stumbleupon and propeller.

5. Article Directories – This a very popular method if you are familiar with internet marketing then I’m sure you’ve heard about the power of Ezinearticles.com and all the benefits of using them.  Writing and submitting your articles will give you traffic, backlinks, it’s simple and effective.  Instead of just a description of your site you can write a whole entire keyword rich article which will help your website or blog out tremendously.

Usually they are FREE and I’ve got some sites that will point you to the right article directories below.

6. Pressrelease – A powerful way of letting the media and consumers know about yourself and your products/services with a document.  The more professional and well written the better.  Pressreleases need to be more of a journalistic style rather than a marketing style and more informational, not just trying to make a sale or review.

I’ve got an awesome url for you below with a large list of pressrelease sites most are probably nofollow but still use as many as you can.

7. Submitting your RSS Feeds – Many people find your blogs from reading your feeds (small description of your post) they find on different feed directories.  Make sure you are careful to make sure you don’t submit the same feed to many times to the same site.  Some automatic feed services like pingomatic and pingoat submit to the same sites or search engines.  If you need more info on RSS Feeds go here http://www.whatisrss.com/

I would definitely suggest joining a automated feed and post service, then add your feed url to some of the feed directories you’ll find at the site below.  Some are dofollow and some are not, experiment but it’s a great list.

8. Buy Backlinks – This is a good way to get very relevant and High PR one way links, but will cost some money.  Definitely worth it.  If you are going to have a major website or blog, then you’ll eventually have to pay for SEO services and for Powerful back-links, or you’re competition will run you over and never look back.  You gotta remember, accomplished and successful sites may have a team or a dedicated person just for their seo, so paying for backlinks from a good source, can usually put your sites ahead of the pack. I’ve used and had success with text link ads, this link will give you .

9. Reciprocal Links – Exchanging links with other relevant sites has always been very popular but not as powerful as it use to be ever since Google cracked down on the Linkjuice from this method a few years ago.  It still works great and a must do SEO tactic to out rank your competition with similar niches.  The best way I’ve found to find similar websites to do this method is by joining forums, usually they’ll have a section for this or by doing some research in the search engines.

I wanted to add, make sure you also use hubpages and squidoo because they really don’t fall under anything above they are more considered as internet tools, web 2.0 website or community websites.  You’ll find they both work very well for your seo needs.  The 9 Ways on how to get Powerful Backlinks above are not in any particular order.  Oh yeah, I wanted to mention don’t forget about “Link Baiting” (creating content just to receive backlinks) that is seriously a very powerful method as well, and Guest Posting (creating posts for other relevant blogs).  If you got something to add then let me know.  Make sure you are using a few or all of the methods mentioned above and you will soon be getting more traffic and PR then expected!

11 Things to Remember for a Successful Online Business

By MD On July 25, 2009 No Comments

I had read a great post about 9 reasons why some peoples online businesses fail and what you need for a successful business.  It was very motivating, inspiring and keeps you in check on what’s important and what’s not.  You can read the whole post here Shoemoney it was a really great post.  I rewrote it and changed it to “11 things to remember for a successful online business”.

1.  Don’t copy the same exact service or product as someone else and not change it up. You start a business or have an idea and you do or sell the exact thing someone else is doing and not change it up.  Whether by changing the appearance, sleeker, faster, shinier change something about it or change your marketing approach.  Bottom line bring something new to the table or you won’t make it.  A different angle could work also.

2.  You gotta be disciplined – starting a online business you better be ready to put in 100 hr work week and even when you are seeing some success, you gotta continue with the work ethic because there’s no 9 to 5 with an online business and it’s open 24 – 7.  Once you know how to keep things going smoothly then you can relax and live the dot com lifestyle… a little bit.

3.  Focus on what’s important - Don’t focus on appearance or how pretty your sites look.  Focus on whats important such as customers, customer service, more sales, improving things for you customers,  tools and etc….

4.  Trust within your team – You gotta trust your team and utilize them for what you hired them for, they are there to help you.  If they are a hinderance then get rid of them or do a better job pre-screening.

5.  Don’t get cocky or think your entitled to succeed – I’ve meet many people who believe there time has come and they are owed success for whatever reasons.  Back to reality, everyone thinks they are important and different, without hard work and smarts then you probably won’t find success.  You gotta work for success.

6. You gotta have street smarts – Book smarts are great for tests and passing the exam to get a higher position.  But in business “street smarts”, common sense and having good instincts will be a must have or you’ll get out slicked, lyed to, played, used and abused in the world of business and the Internet marketing world.

7.  Don’t be cheap and cut corners – Remember the old business saying, “you gotta spend money to make money”.  It’s true and also the less you do the more you’ll make.  A great tip from a guru said “do what you’re good at and outsource what you’re not good at”.

8.  Never take your customers/readers/subscribers for granted – They help make you successful and they bring in more sales and customers.  Don’t ever take them for granted and always treat them GREAT!

9.  Don’t be scared of failure -  Some people who are new to business might have never failed before and then when they do on their first attempt to start a business they give up or think of themselves as a loser.  I have personally failed a ton of times and I learn from my failures and mistakes and I grow and come back stronger and more knowledgeable.  Failure is a part of business.

10.  Don’t try to do everything yourself – I used to have a hard time with this one.  Delegate and you will have more time to work on more important things of your business if you find the right team or others who you can outsource work to.  You will never make it big online if you try to do everything yourself.

11.  Set Goals - start out small then think bigger but reach each one first then move to the next one.  If it’s money then same applies.  Make a goal of making your first grand then after you reach it set another larger goal.

These eleven pointers will help your online business reach success or keep it running successful.  If anyone has anything to add then let me know.

Top Ten SEO Mistakes

By MD On June 3, 2009 1 Comment

One of the most frustrating parts of Internet Marketing easily could be SEO (search engine optimization) .  It sometimes makes some of us marketers to act a little crazy ;-)

I have created a Top Ten Seo Mistakes post from my experiences and tips I have learned along the way.

Why is SEO techniques so important for your website or blog?  If you do not comply with many of the (search engine optimization) rules then you are taking the risk of 1. not getting indexed by search engines altogether and 2. getting kicked out of the search engines or losing all your pagerank.  :-(

Top Ten SEO Mistakes

#1 Using the Title Tag improperly. This is basically the most important tag on your entire site.  Your title tag is what will appear in the search engine results pages as the title of your site or post.  It’s what people click on to go to your site.  Very important to pick the best keyword phrase.  Make it catchy and with your main keywords in it – (NO longer than 65 characters!) Always make sure you use a title tag or no title will appear in the serps!

#2 Not using Meta tag Keywords Properly. Back in the good ol days search engines looked highly on Good Meta Keyword tags but now meta tags don’t help your sites pagerank.  BUT improper use of meta tags will hurt you.  Meta tags is the description of your site or blog below the title tag in serps.  Make sure you format it correctly and use good keywords, synonyms, descriptions.  Keep it under (170 characters), you will find your meta tag description right below the title tag description.

#3 Html mistakes on your site.  There could be many reasons for mistakes with your html coding but this is a very common mistake. Html is not properly formatted and usually I found the reason for this is because you forgot to put a closing tag at the end of your html tags.  Example:  very simple example  <b>example <–<—–forgetting the end tag which would be </b> forgetting a end tag will really mess up your whole page and the search spiders will also not pick up the page the way they should.

#4 Creating and writing useless content. Remember the old saying content is king.  That still is pretty much the same even today.  BUT if you have a bunch of worthless content that doesn’t help a potential reader or customer then the search engines will pick up on that.  Many people nowadays write content (worthless) in hopes of getting ranked quicker or etc….One thing I learned about SEO is Search Engines know how many people go to your site, how long they stay, if they return and if other people go to your site from other websites.  The search engines determine this as which site is more important and has more value.  Basically if you have worthless content and people leave and don’t come back then you will get ranked lower.

#5 Overuse of Keywords or keyword stuffing.  Many newbies think the more keywords they scatter all over their site the better or quicker they get ranked right?  Wrong,  search engines are so more complexed than they use to be so this doesn’t work anymore.  You need to distribute your keywords out evenly and in a manner where they make sense.  Don’t overdue the keywords and also add words that are similar to your main keyword descriptions.

#6 Improper usage of “Link Anchor Text”. Many people use the infamous “click here” or “enter herefor their html hyperlink or link anchor text.  One thing I learned about this is that search engines love html hyperlinks and the actual words describe what your site is about.  If you use “click here” as your link anchor text then you will show up for the search results “click here” .  Use relevant keywords for your link anchor text instead of “click here”.  Don’t use the same exact “link anchor text” throughout your site this could lead to search engine spamming.  Also when you are making articles and getting backlinks to your site.  Have those “link anchor text” also be words you want your site to be ranked for and don’t always use “click here to enter site”.

#7 Unfriendly Urls don’t help your cause either.  Have you seen some urls usually a different page of the actual site that says (www.example.com/?p=5432) this I found is usually with blogs.  With wordpress it’s default is to make your pages and links in your site use a p= for page or cat= for a category.  BUT with most scripts/platforms they make it very easy to change this and come with the feature built in.  With wordpress you just go into the “permalinks” I believe and you can change your page and category urls  from this: www.example.com/?p=12312 to this www.example.com/date of post/title of post .  This is much better looking and people can see what the actual url is about instead of p=1221 and more SEO sound.

#8 Using Irrelevent Keywords in hopes of getting more traffic to your site.  This is a NO NO!  I mean like this:  I have a site about internet marketing or about Top Ten SEO Mistakes and you put current news keywords & tags on your site.  Example adding “Sara Palin” or “susan Boyle” as one of your keywords and tags for a make money online site.  Don’t risk it.

#9 Improper “Image Alt Attribute” usage.  Search engines can’t see images so the “Image Alt Attribute” describes to the search engines and to people what the picture is about.  You can add whatever you want to your image alt attribute just don’t leave it blank.  Tip put keywords here cause if you go to image results on google search engine your picture will show up and it will lead to your site which in turn more traffic!

#10 Redirects or Bait and Switch, pretty much I mean having a mirrored and identical site where one is for the search engines- full of good content and keywords and the other is for the potential customers full of offers and links.  There is software for these tactics and the search engines will catch on.  Redirects- some say they are bad for search engines and page rank while I and others think they are fine.  I know many TOP Internet Marketers who use redirects and say they are fine.  But I know other TOP Internet marketers who frown on redirects.  So this one I’ll leave up to you :-)

I hope you learned something new from my Top Ten SEO Mistakes.

Wooooooow! that was one long post but worth it.

cheers!

Why is SEO Important for Your Website?

By MD On April 9, 2009 No Comments

SEO is an acronym that stands for Search Engine Optimization. Search engine optimization, in other words, describes the process that is undertaken by web designers as well as website owners to increase their sites’ visibility to search engines. Why is SEO important then? It is also a way that enables websites to be easily picked by robots sent search engines like Google so that one gets better rankings on search results. SEO is for anyone, whether a webmaster, blogger, activist, marketer or one who recognizes the need for some strong online presence.  As a result of the wide appeal that Search Engine Optimization has been getting recently, there are many companies that have come up that promise ‘guaranteed to search rankings’ or promise results overnight if they are employed to undertake SEO work.

Many clients are contacted by such companies and unfortunately most take the bait and spend lots of money paying for services that do little or nothing to improve their search results rankings.

Why is SEO important today? Search Engine Optimization is however not limited to just how search engines pick up a site. There are some design as well as writing skills required in order to make this possible. On top of that, there are also online directories that contribute greatly to a site’s visibility on the net. In an effort to make a website more accessible and easy to pick by a search engine demands that high standards of web design be applied. It is therefore right to say that SEO has contributed to web standards improving over the years. Thus, most sites that employ SEO techniques are also sites that are more likely to be accessible, more usable and those that have a high quality markup. An attractive websites to search engine robots is therefore a website that also equally attractive to those visiting it on the internet.

In most SEO techniques that are undertaken, perhaps none is more common and the most crucial than that of writing good content. A good SEO expert recognizes that even a technically perfect site needs to have unique and specific content it is remain in top results searches. Why is SEO important in this way? Good content brings return visitors and eventually this may result in return visitors having links to the site. The more links a particular website has, the higher the chances of search engines ranking the website as high.

This is because the search engine recognizes the website as a valuable resource to others who have links to it,, thus giving higher page rankings.  With more links thus comes more targeted traffic to the website.
From the above, it is clear what Search Engine Optimization can do for a website. In fact without some form of Search Engine Optimization, it is impossible for search engine robots to pick websites. So no matter how small SEO work may be, it will result in much better results than if it was not undertaken at all.  So then, why is SEO important in today’s fast-paced life?

Think of how many times you have been disappointed by search results using a particular keyword. In most cases, people rarely go beyond the first page of a search engine results page.  Even those who do go beyond the first page, rarely travel past the second. Thus, the importance of SEO cannot be emphasized any further.

To fully meet the needs of the millions of searches done everyday on search engines, a webmaster or blogger needs to use SEO in order the optimize the keyword results of a site by use of a particular optimized keyword. Optimizing one’s site by use of SEO techniques has been shown to significantly bring in laser targeted traffic to your site or blog and thus is the main key to having a successful online business.
