You must’ve just recently made the final decision to start blogging.
Let me just tell you that the day I started blogging was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made in my life. It has already taken me on an incredible journey of knowledge, experiences, opportunities, connections, and best of all freedom to work for myself online at home.
Today begins your blogging journey and you can take it as far as you want too.
So, let’s do the first step, and come up with your topic. It would be really good if you spent some quality time to brainstorm on some ideas before you make a final decision since this will have a huge impact whether you love your blog, and enjoy writing on a consistent basis.
Here’s a few notes before we get started.
Yes, you could use this entire process to setup a website, too.
The 3 things you will need to create a blog are – a domain name, hosting plan, and a blogging platform. A blogging platform will allow you to write, publish and design your blog easily. A domain name is a url like for my blog it’s “www.mathewday.com”. Hosting is where your site is being stored at, and allows people to see it on the internet.
Don’t worry, I’ll walk you through the whole process.
This is the first post in my – blogging series – that will guide you step-by-step to creating your first blog. All the way to getting traffic, and making money from your blog. I will be as straightforward, helpful, and as detailed as possible.
Why am I doing this?
Most of the complete guides to blogging that are out there cost money to purchase, and this type of information I believe should be made to you for free. The other reason being I was once in your shoes, and use to get very frustrated because the incomplete blogging guides that I would find for free were not newbie friendly, or written for a non-techie like myself. If you checkout any of my tutorials, then you’ll see that I am very thorough and explain everything step-by-step.
I need to tell you right now before we go any further, it’s a fact that 90% of all people who start a blog lose interest and give up within the first few months that they start blogging.
Why? It’s usually because they choose the wrong topic for their blog. Choosing a topic that you’re truly passionate about will greatly increase your chances of seeing success with your blog, and taking it even farther than expected.
Are you still with me?
Great! Now since I know you’re actually committed to this, and ready to really start a successful blog, then keep reading for some tips on how to choose a great topic for your first blog.
They work, I’m still blogging after 3+ years of starting my very first blog, and trust me, I’m just a regular person who wanted to express myself and make some money at the same time. Probably just like you.
I now have quite a few blogs in several different niches, but you gotta get the first one under your belt before you start expanding to others. That’s if you want to. I suggest only having and focusing on one blog, and taking it to super stardom status. You’ll be able to do this if you put all your efforts into just one blog and being passionate about it.
Why do You want to start a blog?
You gotta be honest with yourself. Are you starting a blog just to make money online? Which is totally fine, but the make money niche has some HUGE competition and unless you got some skills and experience in internet marketing, you probably won’t do well in the “Make Money” niche starting off.
You’re going to eventually make money regardless what topic you choose.
But nowadays, it’s more important to start a blog that matters rather than just chasing the money online.
If you want to succeed with your first blog, then you need to standout from the rest, and the best way to do that is by actually having passion and a real purpose behind your blog.
Are you starting a blog for:
- financial freedom
- sharing with the world
- do you want to do this part time
- or are you going to do this full time
Or start a blog for all the reasons above. The coolest thing about blogging are all the endless possibilities since you don’t know where it will take you, or what you’ll learn from it. Some new bloggers just start off writing about one of their hobbies, and next they find themselves on the front headlines of the national news and making unlimited amounts of money, passively.
You just don’t know until you create your blog, and start blogging.
But first you still need to pick your blog topic.
Let me just add for you who want to do this blogging thing part time, that’s exactly how I started out. I was working a full time retail job and luckily got started blogging. Now I do this full time, and make money from home by blogging.
Though, you will still need to fully commit and be focused on blogging for the hours you can set aside for it. The more time you can spend on your blog the first few months will greatly help you get moving forward much quicker. But just do what you can.
Choosing the right topic for your blog
I’m not going to elaborate to much about choosing the right topic, but just lead you in the right direction, and let you take it from there. Don’t hesitate to ask if you have any questions.
Here’s some suggestions on how to choose the right blog topic:
- #1 suggestion for blog topic – choose a passion of yours
- something you’re really really interested in and want to learn more about
- something you have a lot of knowledge on already
- something you have a lot of experience with
- one of your hobbies
- one of your skills
- something you believe in
- something you want to teach others about
If you choose a blog topic from one of the ways above, then you’ll be much more motivated to blog, and the higher your chances of being successful.
Now choosing a blog topic will then let you know what niche you’ll be in too. For instance, this blog is in the internet marketing & make money online niche. This kinda let’s you know about your competition and who to network with. I’ll talk more about that later on.
Just spend some time thinking it over and jotting down ideas on a good blog topic for you, and probably even sleeping on it before you make a final decision. Unless you’re already 100% sure on what topic you want to start a blog on.
I hope I didn’t discourage you at all about being upfront with the failure rate of the average blogger, which is at least 90%.
Don’t even think about that ever again.
Just take this advice that I got from one of the most successful people on the planet.
- narrow your choice to just 1 blog topic – stay committed and focused to just that one thing
- make it work – never stop putting in the effort, energy, and passion into your blog until you make it happen
- Never stop believing – always believe in yourself and your blog NO MATTER WHAT
I changed the wording just a bit so it would relate to blogging. But you will have a successful blog if you put those 3 things into practice.
Now once you’ve chosen your blog topic and niche, then you’re next step is to choose your brand name and a successful domain.
Just follow that link and I’ll walk you through the next step of blogging once you’re ready.
