Consider doing key word research before buying your name unless you know exactly what you want it to be. For example, your own name that your going to make big and famous. Buy your domain for two or more years. Agreed!

I always prefer .com domains too! I haven’t registered any other domain other than .com extension.

.com domains usually weighs a lot in SERPs, that’s what i’ve observed though. for personal sites, it doesnt matter since most if not all use their complete names for a domain but for SEO it’s really a hard thing since most good names have already been taken, we don’t know something as easy as abc would be available

I think everyone would always prefer a .com rather than .net just because of the intrinsic nature. I also would try to avoid using hyphens and dashes.

Choosing a keyword for a domain name is the most arduous process in the Internet Marketing Business. I too agree with that a dot com is easier to manage than a dot net or dot org
